WBW – What was on television…

Random Ramblings

Before the modern convenience of DVRs and even VCRs.. people had to carefully plan their television viewing.  I’m sure my parents turned down social invitations on Dallas night. Psh, you didn’t miss Dallas. It just wasn’t going to happen. You had to make it a point to be in front of the television when your favorite show came on.. and the commercials.. you just had to suffer through them, no fast forward.

These were some of the favorites around our house when I was a kid…

You can click each video to see the intro for the show. Memories….

Oh, and the commercials..

WBW – Way Back Wednesday – I had all of these

Random Ramblings

So here we go with another WBW..

FLICKER aka ‘THE BEST RAZOR EVER’

razor

This was my very first razor. These were awesome.. you got 5 razors in 1. When one got dull, you just gripped the center wheel and turned it to a new one. I can’t believe they stopped making these!

ZINKA

zinka

Who knew avoiding a sunburn could be so much fun? All you needed was a tube of Zinka… the brighter the better. Nothing like smearing turquoise and hot pink goo on your face before a day at the pool… and we thought we looked cool.

TRAPPER KEEPERS

trapper keeper

I loved my Trapper Keeper. I truly believe this is where my love of stationary and office supplies started. I am addicted to notebooks, pens, post-its, planners, markers, washi tape, etc. Shopping for school supplies was the highlight of the year. That was the only silver lining to the otherwise dark cloud of ‘back to school’ looming overhead as summer came to an end.

WBW – Remember these?

Random Ramblings

I’m going to be starting a new thing here at ASG.. WBW aka ‘Way Back Wednesdays’. Once in a while on a Wednesday we are going to take a stroll down memory lane.. a little nostalgia is always fun. Here is today’s installment.

HYPERCOLOR SHIRTS

hypercolor shirt

Everyone had or wanted one of these shirts. They were the hottest piece of wardrobe for kids in the late 80’s/early 90’s.  I think I had a pink one.. I’m not sure what happened to it. I probably wore it out.

PHOTO KEYCHAINS

photo keychain

I loved these! What vacation or trip to an amusement park would be complete without a photo keychain? I came across this on Pinterest and it’s one of those things that you don’t remember until you see it, and then you’re all like, “Oh yeah! I remember those!”

NEON PHONE

neon phone

Ah, the neon phone… that would light up when it rang. There was something soooo cool about getting to see the neon innards of a phone. Millions of teenage girls across the USA had these in their rooms. Kids today will never know what it’s like to beg your parents for your own phone line.. or to slam a phone on the receiver in anger.. hitting the ‘end’ button on a cell phone just doesn’t have the same effect.

CUTE LITTLE PORTABLE RADIO… that I never got to have.

radio

Yeah, I’m still a tad bitter about this one. I wanted one of these so bad it hurt. My friend and next door neighbor had one.. I wanted one.. bad. Really bad.  It’s one of those childhood pains that never goes away. I swear, this would have been life changing. Who knows where I would be if only I had gotten one of these awesome, way cool, cute radios. *sigh* Sadly, we’ll never know….

If you shop at Target.. this app is a MUST!

Random Ramblings • Reviews

So let me tell you about my new favorite app.

Cartwheel

Cartwheel

[AdSense-A]

How have I not known about this before now??? I can’t believe all of the savings I have been missing out on. It’s no secret that I hate, loathe, DESPISE, Walmart and everything they stand for. Some will argue that Target isn’t that much better, but I beg to differ. Just walking through the doors at Walmart causes my blood pressure to rise and I break out in a cold sweat. It’s not pretty. At all. So we broke up.. it wasn’t me.. it was them.. I haven’t stepped foot in a Walmart in over a year and it feels wonderful. I highly recommend it.

Anyway, I am a devoted Target shopper. The nearest one is about 30 minutes from my house and the nearest Walmart is about 5. I will happily drive the extra 25 minutes.

If you shop at Target and you don’t have this app then you need to stop what you are doing right now and get it. Get it now! It is so cool.

You can browse hundreds of deals or just scan the barcode on things in your cart to see if there are extra savings on those items. When you find a deal, just add it to your personalized barcode and they scan it at checkout. It’s that easy. You can add up to 10 items each time you shop. Woo Hoo!

I saved $4.69 on my first shopping trip.

Cartwheel 2

Here’s a link that explains more.. check it out HERE.

** I’m not compensated by Target at all! I’m just passing this info along.

How to get cute icon designs on your iPhone… tutorial w/photos.

Random Ramblings

update 1-b

I’m going to show you how to change the boring icons on your iPhone to super cute designs. It is so easy to do, and just follow this step by step tutorial and you’ll see just how easy it is. There are going to be a lot of photos, so just follow along.

Ok, let’s get started.

[AdSense-A]

First, go to the app store and download the Cocoppa app. It’s free and it looks like this.

Icon Tutorial 3

Once you download the app, you will have to create an account. You can either signup through Facebook or with your email.

Hit the search button at the top of the screen.

Icon Tutorial 4

Type in whatever app icon you are wanting to replace.. I started with Pinterest. (I’m not really sure why, but I got more designs by typing in the app I wanted to search instead of selecting the icon below the search box.. just a tip.)

tutorial 1-B

Common apps have a TON of cute designs to choose from.

tutorial 2

Once you find the one you like, click it and it will bring you to this screen. Hit ‘download’.

tutorial 3-b

From this screen, you search for the app icon you want to replace. Select the icon you want to replace. You can just enter it in the search box if it doesn’t automatically pop up below. If it’s an uncommon app, and you don’t see it right away, you can scroll through and manually search for it.

tutorial 4-b

The next step is to enter in what will be displayed under the icon. Most are short and simple.. once in a while you will come across a long description. Just edit it to say what you want. Try to keep it to one or two words only. Then click ‘ok’.

tutorial 5-b

A screen pops up reminding you NOT to delete the old app icon. Do NOT.. I repeat.. DO NOT delete the old icons. The new icons are just shortcuts.. you still need the old icons them to work… so just click ‘ok’. (I’ll show you what I did with all of mine at the end of the tutorial)

Icon Tutorial 11

We are almost done! The next screen will be for you to add the new icon to the home screen. Click the button shown below..

tutorial 6-b

Then, the final step is clicking ‘add to Home Screen’.

tutorial 7-b

Click ‘add’…. and Voila! That’s it!

tutorial 8-b

Now, you are ready to use your new icon!

[AdSense-A]

Ok, now since you have to keep the old icons.. all I did was made an ‘Old Icon’ folder and moved it to the back page on my phone.

I want my MTV…

Random Ramblings

mtv

It was 1980..something.. and life was good. It was back when the ‘M’ in MTV actually stood for Music.. instead of Mindless. You could see Bon Jovi sing about being wanted Dead or Alive… Madonna was telling her Papa not to preach.. and Dire Straits had the coolest music video we had ever seen… Money For Nothing. Ah, those were the days. That’s what sparked my love of music. I can hear a song today..  like Van Halen’s ‘Jump’ and still see David Lee Roth with those ridiculous, leave nothing whatsoever to the imagination, tights.. or hear a Whitesnake song and see Tawny dancing on cars. We didn’t have cable at our house.. because we lived on the outskirts of town and we couldn’t get cable.  My sister and I spent a lot of time at our Grandmother’s house and the first thing we did when we got there was turn the TV to channel 23. My poor Grandmother HATED it… she thought we were going to be warped by watching that filth… we probably were.. a little.  My sister is 8 years older than me, which meant we didn’t agree on a lot of things, including what to watch on television… but this was one thing we agreed on.

mtvvjs

Back in the days of playing MASH with friends… hoping you weren’t sentenced to a life of living in a shack, VJ was always on my list of dream jobs. I wanted to be just like Martha Quinn. I thought they had the coolest gig on the planet. Getting paid to hang out with rock stars and listen to music all day… that’s what I’m talking about. I must be old, because I still remember the original lineup of VJs. Wow. It’s hard to believe it’s been that long ago. *sigh*

Then came the late 80’s, early 90’s… the beginning of the end. It started off promising… all innocent… they lured you in with a little, teeny, tiny break from all music/all day… with a game show, Remote Control… which was fun.  They were sneaky about it that’s for sure… because, then came The Real World, which I watched the first few and liked.  Blocks of music got shorter, and little by little, more reality shows were popping up in the lineup. Before long, our beloved MTV as we knew it was a thing of the past. I do get it, there’s not much need for MTV in today’s world… with music videos at your fingertips just by searching YouTube. It’s not economical.. the reality shows are the network’s bread and butter. The kids of today will never know what it’s like to have to wait for your favorite video to come up in the rotation… or turning it on just in time to see the ending of your favorite song. Videos were how bands and artists made their mark… yeah, of course the music was the biggest way, but the videos were almost just as important. The image. I still get my fix on occasion since VH1 Classic still plays music videos from back in the day. Back in the day… ugh.

Man, I’m old.

Christmas is over…. winter, you may be dismissed.

Random Ramblings

It’s no secret that I’m a summer girl. I love the sunshine, the warm breeze, the long days, the trees full of leaves, the smell of fresh cut grass.. all of it. Shorts, flip-flops, and tan lines… doesn’t get much better than that… living life like a Jimmy Buffett song.  Also, there’s that little thing called summer break. I love having my kiddo all to myself for those 3 months (give or take) out of the year. No waking up early, no alarm clocks, no packing lunches, no homework..  absolutely no hustle and bustle whatsoever.

summer girl

Seriously.. Christmas is all winter is good for and Christmas is over, so now I’m ready for Jack Frost to get to packing. Winter is just icky. All the sickness gives my inner germaphobe an eye twitch… the sneezing.. the coughing.. just all around germy, flu-like nastiness. No. Thank. You. Hand sanitizer is my friend. We’re tight.. like PB&J.

Another thing the irks me about winter… I hate coats… literally loathe them. I don’t see how people up north tolerate really frigid temperatures. We actually get by pretty easy compared to some places. I wouldn’t survive. I just know it. I am a wuss with a capital ‘W’. I’ll admit it. No shame.

coats suck

This was the first super cold day that I had to break out the coat, coat. Normally, I try to get by with a ‘light’ jacket for as long as possible.

My feet stay cold.. my skin stays too dry and my hands are chapped from all the extra hand washing. Blah!  My language is so much more colorful during the winter.. nothing like trying to pump gas with a 90mph minus 50 wind blowing the entire time. I’m ashamed at some of the words muttered under my breath during these times.  I’ve tried the whole ‘mind over matter thing’.. chanting ‘it’s 75 and sunny.. it’s 75 and sunny’. Yeah, that crap doesn’t work.

The countdown to summer has officially begun.

160 days… 19 hours.. 56 minutes and 19 seconds.

Bring on the sunshine.
